Together for University, a cross-party students platform, has sought to draw the attention of the government to the high fees charged at the Goa University for revaluation of answer sheets.
Addressing the media at Azad Maidan on Thursday, the group has also demanded better transport facilities for university students.
“Revaluation fees of Rs 735 are too high and hence, are a burden on the students. If the teachers are paid around Rs 20 to 30 per paper for revaluation, where does the remainder of the money go? Thousands of students seek revaluation in two to three subjects each. The fee amount would then run into lakhs. The government should investigate this matter,” said a student leader, Gaurav Padte.
Siddesh Bhagat, young sarpanch of Aquem-Baixo and founder member of TFU demanded that the government should provide proper transport facilities to university students. Transport is a long pending issue. There should be buses from Canacona, Sanquelim, Margao, Ponda and also from Panaji to Goa University. This will help students.
Rahul Naik, convenor of TFU said, “We want MLAs to take up this issue at the Assembly and get it solved for the sake of poor students.”
