PORVORIM

A number of students from Std 12 gathered at the office of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in Porvorim on Friday to protest against what they termed a “difficult” physics paper.

Later, a delegation of students met Goa Board Chairman Ramkrishna Samant and handed over to him a petition signed by over 200 students, requesting the Board to correct the paper leniently.

In their petition, the aggrieved students have mentioned that too many students found the physics paper set by Goa Board difficult and tricky. On account of this, many students feel that they may get less marks or may even fail.

Speaking to The Goan, a student, Tanai Parab, said the physic paper was set by Goa Board on the pattern of competitive exams. “However, we were not taught in higher secondary schools to answer such types of questions. The Board should have advised higher secondary schools that it would set the physics paper on the pattern of competitive exams and hence teachers should have taught students accordingly,” said Parab.

“Since this was not done, we found the paper difficult. We hope the Goa Board will understand our problem and correct the paper leniently,” Parab added.

Responding to the delegation of students, Samant said he is not the right authority to take any decision.  “I will talk to the committee of teachers who have set this paper and also to the moderators and report the matter to my higher authorities to take necessary action,” said Samant.

Later, parents of aggrieved students also met the the Goa Board Chairman and conveyed to him the grievance of the students.
