Wastage of water from pipeline in Margao continues unabated

MARGAO: Water wastage has been rampant on the Hotel Woodland road for the last couple of days now for want of repairs and maintenance by the PWD, Water Supply.

The ground reality was no different on Thursday. As the State and the PWD observed World Water Day, water wastage from a water pipeline on the main road at Hotel Woodlands in the heart of the commercial capital continued unabated, making one wonder whether slogans on water conservation are only directed at the citizens and not for the concerned departments.

That water from the damaged line has been oozing out on the road is clearly evident from the fact that the entire area has become slippery due to the continuous discharge of water from the line. The situation, however, has not attracted the attention of the PWD officials till date.

Parents who come to pick their wards studying in the adjoining school wonder why it has taken the PWD time to repair the pipeline and plug the leakage.

When The Goan called up PWD Assistant Engineer Vijay Kudchadkar to shed light on the delay by the PWD to carry out the repairs, he said though the situation was brought to the department’s attention only a day ago, the repairs could not take place for want of road cutting. “We have been told that the road was recently hotmixed by the PWD roads division. We cannot cut the road without permission from the roads division,” he said.

Sources said the issue is likely to figure at the meeting between PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, wherein the water supply division will take up the issue of road cutting to carry out the repairs and plug the water leakage.
