City categorised in 'Aspiring Leaders' list, fails to enter top 15 by 15 points
PANAJI
The city of Panaji has been ranked 16th among 73 cities in the country in Swachh Survekshan, a survey conducted by Quality Council of India (QCI) under the Swachh Bharat Mission for cleanliness and sanitation.
While Panaji failed to make it in the list of first 15 clean cities categorised as ‘Leaders’ only by 15 points, it led the next list of 22 cities categorised as ‘Aspiring Leaders’ with a total of 1,385 points.
The cities were judged on 2,000 points – 1,000 points for service level status data, 500 for independent observation and 500 for citizens’ feedback.
As regards service level status, Panaji’s section rank was 14 with a total score of 760 out of 1,000. In Planning (Strategy for Open Defecation Free town (ODF) and Integrated Solid Waste Management (SWM) it scored 33 out of 50, in Communication (Information, Education & Behaviour Change Communication (IEBC) activity) it scored 31 out of 50, in Waste Management (Door-to-door collection, sweeping, collection and transportation) the score was 319 points out of 400, in Waste Management (Processing and Disposal) the score was 182 out of 200, in Sanitation (Public and Community Toilet Provision) it scored 135 out of 150 and in Sanitation (Individual Household Latrines) it scored 60 out of 150.
In citizens’ feedback, Panaji’s section rank was 26 and it scored 295 points out of 500. Some of the questions asked were - Is the city always clean?, Always able to find dustbins?, Is there daily door-to-door collection? Are there toilets within 500m? Is there basic infrastructure available at public/community toilet? Have an individual household toilet?
In independent observation, Panaji’s section rank was 37 with a score of 330 points out of 500.
As per the survey, cities were categorised as leaders, aspiring leaders, slow movers and acceleration required.
