Co-operation Minister Govind Gaude on Thursday said that a Rs 100 crore-worth new full fledged sugar factory would probably be operational in the State by the next sugarcane harvesting season. Gaude was addressing the press at the Shram Shakti Bhavan.
“The new sugar factory which will be operational on all 365 days of the year will be set up in the State by next year. The Sanjeevani factory was operational for only 55 to 58 days of the year,” Gaude said told reporters. He also spoke about possibility of using the sugar factory to produce products such as ethanol.
Gaude also assured that the sugarcane farmers would get justice. “The government will ensure that all the sugarcane produced by the farmers in the State will get its due price and be sent to the sugar factories in the neighboring States,” he said. “We have asked the Karnataka government to give us permission to take sugarcane vehicles from the newly made Anmod Ghat road which is yet to be inaugurated. The same is likely to be done from November 18,” the Minister said.
Operations at the Sanjeevani Sugar Factory at Tisca, Ponda, are currently stopped as the government claimed they were unsustainable. Losses were piling up over the years, and the government was dithering to pump in more funds to revive the factory.
Sanjeevani will not shut shop: Gaude
SANGUEM: Minister for Cooperation Govind Gaude on Thursday assured sugarcane farmers in the State that the Sanjeevani Sugar Factory would not be shut down, adding that the crushing season would be undertaken at the factory in the coming season.
Responding to fears by sugarcane cultivators in the State over the permanent closure of Sanjeevani Sugar Factory, a meeting was convened by Gaude at Wadem-Sanguem, which was attended by a large number of sugarcane cultivators from Sanguem. >> See pg 4
