Amidst the update of unfinished works, there is also some good news. The work on Tar Bridge is in full swing and is expected to be completed before time, by March end.
The General Manager of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), Jude Carvalho informed that work on the bridge was going on very fast and was expected to be completed much before the deadline.
He said the contractor was allotted a time period of six to eight months to complete the project but it would be completed within three months.
“All work will be completed by March end. The bridge will be commissioned and thrown open for traffic in the first week of April,” Carvalho said.
He said all pile foundations at the site have been completed and presently work on pile caps was going on.
“Once the pile caps come, the girders which are being fabricated in Karnataka will be brought and launched here. Then the top slab will be cast, completing the work,” he said.
The Tar Bridge will be a four-lane composite bridge across the Mapusa River with one metre footpaths on either side.
The length of the bridge is 40 metre with two spans each of 20 metre length. The project cost is Rs 10.30 crore.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant laid the foundation stone for construction of the bridge in Nov end last year and work on the new bridge began soon thereafter.
The old single lane Tar Bridge was later soon demolished to make way for the new four-lane bridge. The new bridge is expected to reduce the pressure of traffic inflow.
