Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed grief and condoled the demise of Teerth Swamiji Mathadipathi of Sri Gokarna Mutt Samsthan in Canacona on Monday.
In his message, Pillai said, “Swamiji was a scholar, a sage, a companion of the needy and above all, a deeply religious person and a true humanist in the best traditions of our ancient culture.”
“In his passing away, the world and especially the State has lost a true sanyasi in every sense of that term. I join all his disciples across the world and the State in sharing this irreparable loss”, he said.
In his message, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “Swami Mathadipathi served humanity through education, health care, and service to the needy.”
“Swami Ji was respected and revered by people from all the communities. His passing leaves behind a deep spiritual void. My condolences to all his followers,” Sawant said.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat, a strong devotee at the Math who would often make personal visits to the Partagalli Math, paid rich tribute to the Swamiji.
“His immense contributions in religious, spiritual and social fields will always be remembered. My thoughts are with all the Mathanuyayis and disciples all over the world,” Kamat told reporters.
