Teething problems at Margao Citizens Service Centre, but we’re overcoming these: Khaunte

MARGAO

Admitting that the first Citizens Service Centre (CSC) opened in Margao has thrown up teething problems, Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte has expressed his resolve to overcome the shortcomings before adding 133 more services, including tourism and agriculture, within a month’s time.

After spending time at the CSC housed on the ground floor of the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex accompanied by District Collector Dr Tariq Thomas and GEL and Land Survey officials, Khuante sought a report from the Land Survey department on the delay in the disposal of applications for survey plans. He promised to initiate action against the officials.

He later told The Goan that issues raised by the common man are genuine, adding that whatever problems the CSC is facing have to be dealt with internally by the departments concerned. “The common man should not face hardships. I have made it clear to GEL and Land Survey officials to resolve their issues,” Khaunte said.

He questioned the Land Survey officials on the reasons behind the 214 applications pending with the department and has called for an immediate report. “Accountability and continuous coordination and monitoring by me and the District Collector will help improvise the system,” he said.

The Revenue Minister pointed out that while the government is driving the system, there may be some people who would not like to join the movement and may even try to stop it. “It is time to tell these people to get out of the system. If the people who are supposed to drive the system are not interested in the movement, we will remove the works allotted to them and appoint others,” he warned.

The Revenue Minister, however, expressed the government’s resolve to overcome all teething problems before adding 133 services to the CSC. “Right now, the CSC is providing services pertaining to the Revenue Department, Land Survey and IT. We have plans to add 133 additional services, including tourism, agriculture and other departments within a month’s time,” he said, adding that the government will open similar CSCs across the talukas in due course of time.
