The tenure of the three-member Cabinet Advisory Committee, will in all likelihood be extended for another two to four weeks before it expires on March 31 this week.
The committee consisting of ministers Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar, Francisco D’Souza and Vijai Sardesai as members with powers to clear expenditure files ranging between Rs100-500 crore, is expecting that a fresh communication in this regard will arrive from across the oceans over the coming days.
“So far there is no communication over what will happen so I cannot say for sure,” Urban Development Minister Francisco D’Souza told The Goan.
“At the end of the day, whatever decision we take we have to convey to the Chief Minister and he gives the final approval. We only recommend, but he has always concurred with everything so far,” D’Souza said.
He, however, said that the current arrangement was the best because “three people deciding is better than one.”
“There is no chance for the parties to blame each other then. The MGP cannot blame the BJP and the Goa Forward cannot blame the MGP,” D’Souza said.
Officials have confirmed that the extension of the Cabinet Advisory Committee is a mere formality with the formal order on the same terms being expected to be issued over the coming days.
The question remains exactly how long the validity of the CAC will be extended as the duration will provide an indication of exactly how long the CM will be out of the country.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on March 5 had delegated his powers for according financial sanctions for expenditure to a group of three ministers “ PWD and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, Urban Development Minister Francisco D’Souza and Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai.
The trio was initially given charge until March 31.
