A group of youngsters from Chandrawaddo-Fatorda assumed the role of the police on Thursday as they recovered four stolen two-wheelers after interrogating an alleged thief.
The alleged thief was later handed over to the Margao police where he was booked under section 41 of the Police Act.
The alleged thief, a native of Hubli, but putting up at Chandrawaddo, made his appearance at Chandrawaddo locality on Thursday near a scrapyard, when he was nabbed by local residents on suspicion.
Enraged by the spate of thefts, the local residents interrogated the accused in their own way, only to find the accused confessing having committed the theft of two two-wheelers.
With the interrogation turning out a success, the local further turned their screws on the accused, with the thief admitting this involvement in two more cases. The local youth took the accused in their car to the various spots and managed to recover four two-wheelers.
All this happened without the knowledge of the Margao police, who were busy engaged with the arrangements for the ensuing BRICS summit. While the accused was handed over to the Margao police, the four two-wheelers have been parked at Chandrawaddo and the police are expected to take the vehicles in their possession on Friday.
Further investigations are on.
