Three community dogs found dead at Mapusa

FIR sought over suspected poisoning

MAPUSA

Three community dogs were found dead under suspicious circumstances at Karaswada, Mapusa, on Friday morning, raising suspicions that they had been deliberately poisoned.

Police complaint

Taking serious note of the incident, the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), North Goa, has lodged a complaint with the Mapusa police, seeking the immediate registration of an FIR against unknown persons for the suspected poisoning and killing of the animals.

According to the complaint, the three dogs were found dead at different locations in and around Karaswada at around 8.30 am on November 6, following information received from a local resident, Siya.

DSPCA officer Apurva, in the complaint submitted to the police, described the incident as serious and sought action under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Post-mortem sought

The DSPCA has specifically requested the police to coordinate with the veterinary authorities and direct the concerned Area Veterinary Officer to conduct post-mortem examinations of all three dogs. It has also sought toxicological tests to determine whether poisoning caused their deaths. The complaint further calls for a thorough investigation, collection of evidence and identification of those responsible.

Evidence preservation

Pointing out that the incident reportedly occurred near the Arcoi-Karaswada veterinary establishment, the DSPCA has urged the police to ensure that the post-mortem examinations are conducted without delay to preserve crucial evidence.

The suspected killing of the three community dogs has once again raised concerns over animal cruelty and the safety of stray animals, prompting the DSPCA to seek urgent police intervention.
