The tiatr fraternity assembled at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao to pay triburtes to Ricardo Vincent Rodrigues aka Rico Rod, who passed away on June 1.

The programme, organised by Tiatr Akademi of Goa (TAG) witnessed tiatrists fondly recall the contribution of late Rico Rod to stage and his rich qualities as a human being.

In his opening remarks, the TAG president Augustinho Temudo, described life as a stage where we are mere artists in the drama of life which is produced and directed by the Almighty. He claimed God has done a favour for tiatrists by giving them powers to make the audience laugh, cry and change the mind of the people through 'Cantaram.'

At the function, Rico Rod's wife Matilda gave glimpses of her life with the late tiatrist.

Recalling fond memories of late Rico Rod was his daughter Menlina, who told the audience how her late father worked tirelessly for tiatr due to which he bagged State awards. She also thanked TAG for working towards the upliftment of Konkani and senior artists as well as encouraging young artists.

Prince Jacob said Rico Rod contributed immensely for furthering the cause of Konkani cinema by spending money from his own pocket. He appealed to TAG to constitute an award in late Rico Rod's name for his superlative effort towards Konkani cinema.

Speaking at the function, tiatrist Wilson Mazarello, termed Rico Rod's family as a tiatrist's family. He fondly remembered with gratitude the late tiatrist's efforts in helping him (Wilson) gain entry in tiatr at a time when it was difficult to do so. He said late Rico Rod's name will figure prominently in his autobiography.

Yet another tiatrist Mario Menezes remembered how he interviewed Rico Rod during the documentation of tiatrists. He said Rico Rod participated in 'Khel Tiatr' as well.

Rico Rod's nephew Bosco described his uncle as a great human being who had love for the Konkani fraternity, dramatics, etc. “He has won the hearts of many of us. His passion for drama was very strong. He liked to be on stage,” said Bosco.

TAG vice-president William Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. TAG Member Secretary Jose Alexander Rodrigues was also present for the function.
