MARGAO rnVersatile Konkani stage artist, Vincent Ricardo Rodrigues, popularly known as Rico Rod passed away at his residence at Sirlim on Wednesday after a brief illness.

He was 83 years and is survived by wife Matilda, daughters Manlyna, Gladys and Meera and sons Victor and Everest. Born on January 20, 1933, Rico Rod played roles of comedian, singer, and director. He has to his credit many awards, including Tiatr Academy of Goa’s for lifetime contribution to Konkani tiatr, besides awards from the Kala Academy and other institutions. He had composed and sung a host of songs and had directed movies and tiatrs. His famous song ‘Duddvank Lagonu’ had captured the hearts of music-loving Goans and is still popular till date. 
The tiatr fraternity in Goa has condoled the death of Rod. Tiatrists C Da Silva and Osvie Viegas said that Konkani tiatr has lost a great tiatrist in the death of Rico Rod.

Six new primary schools get nod

Amidst the ongoing medium of instruction imbroglio, the State Education Department has granted approval to open six new primary schools in regional languages from the academic year 2016-17, while rejecting all applications for starting new primary schools in English medium.
