Clean shoes: Before fire shining your shoes, remove any dirt or debris
Ignite polish: Hold can of shoe polish upside down, over a lit cigarette lighter and allow the surface of the polish to catch fire. Quickly turn it right side up to prevent dripping. Allow the polish to burn for a couple of seconds, then extinguish the flame.
Apply: Apply melted polish to the shoes with a dampened cloth in circular motions.
Layers: Continue to apply light layers of polish until the shoes begin to shine.
Heat: Heat the surface of the shoes with a lighter or hair dryer. Don't let flame touch shoe. Stop once the polish has melted and the shoes look wet.
