The proposed inspection and demarcation of the railway property at Majorda-Utorda scheduled on Tuesday has been called off by Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa after a delegation of Goencho Ekvott called on the MLA on Monday and submitted a memorandum strongly rejecting the proposal for meeting with the District Collector as they reiterated their opposition to double-tracking and coal transportation through Goa.
After the delegation rejected the proposed meeting with the Collector and the inspection with railway officials, the Nuvem MLA cancelled the joint inspection and demarcation at Majorda-Utorda on Tuesday.
“Since the delegation of Goencho Ekvott has raised objections to the proposed inspection, I have told the railway officials to cancel Tuesday’s inspection and demarcation,” the Nuvem MLA said.
The Nuvem MLA had fixed the joint inspection with railway officials on Tuesday after local residents of Majorda-Utorda complained that the railways were carrying out work in private properties.
In the memorandum submitted to the Nuvem MLA, the Goencho Ekvott delegation in a loud voice stated that the organization is rejecting the very idea of land acquisition and the proposed discussions with the District Collector. The memorandum stated that any talk about land acquisition is tantamount to accepting the transportation of coal through the villages.
“Our sole objective is to oppose double-tracking and coal transportation through Goa and we will do all that is required to fight alongside the people of Goa to scrap the very idea of coal passing through Goa, as it is meant only to profit the crony capitalists and with absolutely no benefit accrued to the state of Goa,” the memorandum stated further.
The delegation urged the Nuvem MLA to call off the proposed meeting with the Collector scheduled on Tuesday or any other subsequent date and take up the matter strongly with the government to scrap the proposed land acquisition for double-tracking and coal transportation through the villages and the state of Goa.
While the delegation thanked the D’Sa for his whole-hearted support to be with the people in opposing the double-tracking project, the delegation stated in the memorandum that they are convinced that the MLA will stand by the people and opposed the very idea of coal transportation.
