Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said cyclone Tauktae has caused a lot of damage not only in Mapusa but in the whole of Goa but his top priority was to restore power in Mapusa.

He said all the power department staff was working round the clock to put the damaged infrastructure in place and restore supply in town.

“Our priority is to restore power. If there is no power, people will not get water. We are trying to restore power by today (Wednesday) evening. At least 90 per cent of the people will hopefully get supply,” he added.

Frustrated residents, who had to go without power for three continuous days, slammed the government for taking so long time to restore the supply.

Several residents had to without power and also water supply.

The Mapusa MLA disclosed that attempts were made to release power supply to water stations first, so that water could be pumped to overhead tanks and ensure supply to locals.
