After playing truant on day one of the survey of the Salcete coastal belt, Tourism officials along with the survey teams kick-started the survey on Tuesday, beginning from Cavelossim.
The entire beach stretch from Cavelossim to Utorda is scheduled to be surveyed within six weeks.
While the surveyors and the tourism officials descended on Cavelossim beach to take stock of the situation, the actual beach survey will start on Wednesday.
“We started the exercise on Tuesday after the Tourism officials picked up the surveyors with their official vehicles,” a survey official said.
He added: “We have decided to start the exercise from Cavelossim before the entire exercise winds up at Utorda. Demarcation of the beach properties with stones will follow the exercise.”
Sources in the know pointed out that the teams are expected to descend on the Colva and Benaulim shores after some days.
The survey at the Colva beach belt assumes significance given that the Tourism department has acquired properties, which presently play host to the huts of traditional fishermen.
In fact, the traditional fishermen have been knocking on the doors of successive governments to allow them to use the tourism department property to anchor their fishing boats as well as to store fishing nets, fish and salt on the property.
Meanwhile, officials of the Salcete Block Development Office are expected to inspect the two huts erected on the Tourism department property at Colva following a complaint that the same has been erected by panch Domingo Rodrigues.
Last week, officials of the Goa Coastal zone Management Authority inspected the huts following a complaint that the structures have been illegally erected by the panch.
