Tourist ignores warning, drowns at Baga beach

MAPUSA

A tourist ignored warnings and later drowned in the sea at Baga beach on Thursday morning.

According to reports, a male tourist entered the sea for a swim at about 7.30 am. A Drishti lifesaver Meghraj Juvatkar noticed the tourist and requested him to retreat to the shore.

The male came back to the shore as instructed. The lifesaver explained to the male that there was a weather warning and that the sea was rough with a presence of underwater currents.

Red flags have clearly been placed and the sea is a no-swim zone.

A short while later, the lifesaver suddenly noticed that the same man was floating in the water and realised that he ventured into the waters again despite being warned by the lifesaver.

The lifesaver rushed into the sea to retrieve the male while a call was placed to an ambulance by the backup team.

The victim was brought ashore and vitals were checked. As the pulse was missing, CPR was commenced immediately. An AED was connected to the victim and oxygen was administered.

The victim was rushed to the waiting ambulance staff and was rushed to the Candolim Primary Health Centre, where he was declared dead.
