Traffic signals are all set to return to Navelim as South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar returned to the village on Saturday to give his nod to local MLA Luizinho Faleiro’s pet project of installing the signals at three places to ease traffic congestion in the heart of Navelim.
If the South Goa MP was in Navelim around a week ago to distribute gas cylinders to the below poverty line beneficiaries, he returned to the village today to hand out a promise that he would immediately move a proposal before the South Goa District Collector to take up the traffic signals project at Navelim under the MPLAD scheme.
“The Navelim MLA has requested me to install traffic signals at the Navelim church junction in the interest of the 10,000 strong student population. Students are the future of our country. We should ensure that they come safe to school and go home safe,” the MP said, while announcing his decision to immediately take up the project in Navelim.
The South Goa MP has further decided to renovate the Navelim subway, which was constructed under the MLPAD funds of former South Goa Lok Sabha MP Eduardo Faleiro. Both Sawaikar and Faleiro along with the local people inspected the traffic junction as well as the subway on Saturday. Faleiro said the
subway was an epitome of neglect and apathy all these years and he was instrumental in getting it repaired after his election to the Goa Legislative Assembly.
He, however, said the subway requires some major work and expressed his happiness that the South Goa MP has announced his decision to take up the project in the interest of the school children in particular and the general public.
Meanwhile, Faleiro and the South Goa MP commissioned the new 300 dia 4,25-km pipeline from
Zoriwaddo (Davorlim) to Navelim church, which will augment regular water supply to Navelim, Telaulim and Aquem-Baixo Panchayat giving a major relief to the people.
