Trailer at Canacona leads to ‘roadblock’

Is the national highway NH-17 at Canacona unsuitable for all types of vehicles and its cargo? rnThis appears to be the case, after a trailer carrying a boiler/container had to use a different and internal route, as it could not pass under the KRC overbridge on the highway at Nagorcem on Thursday evening.

The trailer which was proceeding from Margao towards Karwar finally crossed the hurdle below another KRC overbridge at Ponsulem, but not before creating multiple traffic jams for over two hours.

According to sources, the driver noticed that the trailer had exceeded the maximum height specified at the KRC overbridge at Nagorcem, and after considerable time, reversed the vehicle and proceeded along the narrow Char-Rasta-Rajbagh road, before taking a turn towards the Ponsulem road.

Motorists were surprised to learn that while the trailer could not pass below the KRC overbridge at Nagorcem, it could proceed below the KRC overbridge at Ponsulem. However, the movement was slow and this led to a traffic jam for all motorists at Ponsulem.

The traffic snarl did not end there. When the trailer reached Chaudi to join the NH17 road, traffic was paralysed yet again on either sides at Chaudi, making it difficult for the police to control traffic. Many residents and motorists heaved a sigh of relief after the trailer finally crossed the busy Chaudi town.
