MAPUSA: It was darkness at daytime in Mapusa and parts of Bardez, after one of the four main transformers at Mapusa Power Sub-Station failed on Tuesday.
A power transformer of 10 MVA capacity failed early Tuesday morning disrupting power supply in Mapusa and surrounding villages in Bardez. Most parts of Mapusa faced power interruptions throughout the day.
“One 10 MVA transformer at Mapusa sub-station has failed. We are trying our best to replace it with another one,” said Pradeep Narvekar, Executive Engineer, Mapusa.
Although power department officials have been at the site and working around the clock, sources in the department said power shedding will continue in parts of Bardez until a new transformer is replaced at the sub-station.
Meanwhile, the electricity department has released a press note stating that there will be load restrictions to all consumers who get a feed from Mapusa sub-station.
“There will be load restriction to areas of Mapusa municipality, Guirim, Assagao, Anjuna, Vagator, Parra, Siolim, Sodiem, Oxel and surrounding areas till the transformer is replaced,” the statement said.
The Mapusa power sub-station has four transformers with total load carrying capacity of 38 MVA.
Apart from Mapusa, Guirim and Assagao power from Mapusa sub-station is also supplied to Anjuna, Siolim, Sodiem, Parra and other areas.
A source in the department said a new transformer was expected to be replaced by Wednesday evening or Thursday noon.
