MARGAO
A truck laden with concrete blocks damaged a car near the Raviraj hotel in the heart of the commercial capital after the stormwater nullah caved in due to the weight of the truck.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the truck loaded with concrete blocks was parked on the stormwater nullah covered with pavers. After the nullah caved in with the load of the vehicle, the truck rested on a car parked adjacent, leaving the vehicle damaged.
Former Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the Margao Municipal Council should immediately intervene to ensure that stormwater nullahs, wherever covered with pavers, are secured to stop heavy vehicles from parking on the pavements.
“In this case, the truck driver must not have realized that there lies a stormwater nullah under the paved area. The MMC should take action by securing such areas to prevent parking by heavy vehicles,” Coutinho said.
Meanwhile, a resident of the area said the incident should come as an eye opener to the law enforcing agencies, pointing out that sand-laden trucks are all parking adjoining the incident spot.
