Residents of Tuem industrial area on Monday confronted the PWD (water division) engineer over irregular water supply in the area and have also demanded action against water pilferage.
Virnoda Sarpanch Adv Sitaram Parab, Tuem Sarpanch Uday Mandrekar, Prameel Naik, Smita Patekar, Kanishka Pednekar and residents met a PWD (water division) engineer and put forth their grievances.
A resident, Prameel Naik, said a water tanker had arrived at the PWD (water division), but instead of supplying the water, half of the water had spilled on the roads.
“While the entire Pernem taluka is facing a water crisis, water from water tankers being wasted,” he said.
Replying to the query, engineer John said he is conducting an inquiry in the matter.
Later, the residents claimed that some labourers have punched holes in the main pipeline and pilfer water, while thousand litres of water gets wasted throughout the day.
“While people are struggling for water, it is being wasted in such manner,” said an angry resident.
Sudeep Kalangutkar said water is stolen from pipelines in broad daylight and sought to know why action was not initiated against the perpetrators.
“Forget about action, but why have authorities failed to repair the pipelines which were damaged during the process,” questioned Kalangutkar.
The engineer then stated that a complaint regarding theft of water was already filed at Pernem Police station, but they haven't made arrest or detained anyone in the matter.
