In a major development in the Ganeshpuri dacoity case, Mapusa Police have arrested two Bangladeshi nationals suspected to be involved in the crime.

The accused, identified as Raju B (27) and Safikul (37), were residing in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Police said both are originally from Bangladesh and had links with the main accused and six others who executed the dacoity.

According to Mapusa Police, the arrests were made on Tuesday evening after gathering information from human and technical intelligence sources.

Despite the breakthrough, the main accused are still at large. Police efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.

The case has been registered under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including 331(3), 115(2), 351(3), 126(2), 310(2), 61(2), and 111 read with section 3(5).

“The two arrested individuals had conspired with the main accused. They were caught outside Goa, brought back to the State, and taken into custody,” said DySP Wilson D’Souza, Mapusa.

The dacoity took place in the early hours of October 7 at the residence of Dr Mahendra Ghanekar and his family in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa. A group of five to six masked men armed with knives and rods broke into the bungalow, overpowered the family, and held them hostage for over two hours. They looted cash and jewellery worth around Rs 50 lakh before fleeing in the family’s car, which was later found abandoned under a bridge in Panaji.

Police investigations revealed that the culprits were later dropped off in Bengaluru. Several suspects were identified through CCTV footage.

The incident caused alarm in the area and raised concerns over safety and security in residential neighbourhoods.
