A 38-year-old man and a 25-year-old girl were killed in two different vehicular head-on collissions reported on Wednesday. According to Verna police, Salman Ahmad Kidwai (38), a contractor by profession residing at Matol-Verna died after his scooter collided with an oncoming truck around 7 am. Kidwai was proceeding to Margao and the truck was on its way in the opposite direction when he was knocked down at Senaulim. He was seriously injured as a result of the impact of collision.
Kidwai was rushed to the Hospicio in Margao in a private vehicle. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries in the casualty ward of the hospital. The truck driver is reported to have fled from the scene of the accident. Both the vehicles involved in the accident have been moved to the police station. Offences under the IPC and MV Act have been registered and Head Constable Nevil Fernandes is investigating.
Another accident at the same spot claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman, Aishwarya Pradeep Salelkar, resident of Colva, at around 3 pm. She was seriously injured in a head-on collision with a truck of the scooter which she was pillion-riding. The woman was proceeding to proceeding to Utorda while the truck was speeding to Margao. The deceased was shifted in an 108 ambulance to the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim but she too succumbed to her wounds in in the casualty ward of the hospital. According to Verna Police, father of the deceased girl was riding the scooter.
Offences under the IPC and MV Act have been registered and Head Constable Nilesh Naik is investigating.
The State has been witnessing a rise in mishaps with atleast 10 deaths having occurred in the last four days.
