Two held for extortion get 1-day PC

The two accused arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Melyvn Soares and Sanjay Shinde, on charges of corruption and extortion on Tuesday were on Wednesday remanded to one-day police custody by the South Goa Sessions Court.

The duo, who moved the court for bail, argued that they have been wrongly arrested by the ACB under the Prevention of Corruption Act, when they are not government servants. Appearing for the two accused, Adv Rajiv Gomes argued that the ACB has falsely implicated the duo just to arrest them in the case when the agency has no power to take them into custody under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Adv Gomes later told the media that the court has partly heard arguments on the bail applications filed by the two applicants, adding that hearing will continue on Thursday.
