Canacona police on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with a theft of goods worth Rs 2.5 lakh from a foreign national at Bhagatwada-Canacona three months ago.

According to Canacona police, Viket Bhagat of Bhgatwada and Valley D’Costa of Tilamoll-Quepem were taken into custody in connection with the theft.

Police sources informed that they were keeping a close watch on some suspects since the foreigner was targeted while staying in a rented room at Bhagatwada three months ago.

Police informants reportedly noticed D’Costa carrying a costly and imported mobile, and movements of Viket Bhagat, a known juvenile convict, also came under police surveillance.

Police recovered the mobile phone from the accused, while investigations into the case are underway.

Both the accused were produced before JMFC-Canacona, who remanded Viket Bhagat to police custody till November 9 and granted bail to Valley D’Costa.

Investigating officer Sagar Bhatkar is further investigating the case under the supervision of Canacona PI Philomeno D’Costa.
