Two-day ophthalmic national conference IGNITE begins

Goa is equipped with State-of-the-art medical infrastructural facilities at a call’s distance. There are primary health centres, community health centres, district hospitals and Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) which is within 90 minutes reach from any corner of the State. GMC offers speciality and super-speciality treatments and the State government has many schemes to aid free or subsidised medical treatments for the public, stated Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday.
Sawant was inaugurating the two-day Ophthalmic National Conference ‘IGNITE’ in the presence of Dr Ugam Usgaonkar, HoD of Ophthalmology, GMC and Dr Amar Vyas, country head of Alcon Laboratories India Pvt Ltd, S and Dr Chandrakant Shetye, chairman, Goa Infotech Corp Ltd and MLA at Bicholim and MD, Vision Multi-Speciality Hospital.
Appreciating the organisation of two-day sessions for the young ophthalmologists across India, the Chief Minister lauded the Alcon Laboratories and Vision Multi-Speciality Hospital for taking the lead to educate, advise and enlighten the medical professionals in paving their careers.
Dr Sawant also appreciated the fine balancing of Dr Chandrakant Shetye’s involvement in the medical profession and his pursuit of political career. “Dr Shetye has proved to be a good doctor, and he is now emerging as a good politician, and I can foresee him as a successful leader in the near future,” said Dr Sawant.
Dr Ugam Usgaonkar, HoD, Ophthalmology at GMC briefed on the motive of the national conference. "We are here together to share, interact, learn and unlearn as doctors, and medical professionals. We have to share our knowledge, experiences, success stories and take home with us the inputs that others share on this platform," said Dr Usgaonkar.
He also mentioned on the various schemes that are available for the people in Goa. Mediclaim, DDSSY, MJP scheme for the neighbouring State Maharashtra help the patients cope up with financial difficulties, he said.
