However, during one of the visits, the UDC Julias Joannes allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1,500 and an additional Rs 200 to one of his subordinate staff. Sources further informed that the Bhatpal resident flatly refused to pay the bribe and after attempting every means to persuade the staff sought the help of Aam Aadmi Party activists. AAP is learnt to have accordingly informed the ACB. On Friday, the ACB sleuths led by Superintendent of Police Bossuet Da Silva worked out a plan to nab the UDC red handed. As per the plan, the applicant Brenda Pereira along with a police woman in civil dress approached UDC Joannes for the certificate. He was not available on the seat and another staff requested them to wait. After the UDC arrived at about 5 pm, Pereira walked up to him and handed over Rs 1700, which he accepted in full view of all other staff and sub-registrar seating in his cabin and put it in his shirt pocket. Soon, other team members PI Francisco Corte and Rahul Parab swooped on the accused and began the investigation formalities, before placing him under arrest. While going to the press, the ACB sleuths were still at the office of Sub-Registrar, completing the formalities. Meanwhile, AAP Canacona stated that it had facilitated the arrest of the UDC. It may be recalled that AAP volunteers had also facilitated the arrest of a draughtsman at Deputy Town Planner s office, Canacona, while accepting bribe for land conversion.
