A serious issue has come to light in Sattari taluka, where LPG cylinders supplied by HP Gas distributors are reportedly underweight, with nearly 2 kg of gas missing from each cylinder. Angry consumers have approached the Civil Supplies Department, demanding a proper investigation and strict action against those responsible.

Amid ongoing international tensions between Iran and the United States, prices of fuel and essential goods have risen, and shortages are being reported in several sectors, including LPG. Over the past month, gas supply in Sattari taluka has been badly affected, with many consumers not receiving cylinders on time — a fact even admitted by distributors. Taking advantage of this situation, cases of gas pilferage are now being reported.

According to available information, domestic LPG cylinders, which usually have a gross weight of around 30 kg, are being supplied with a shortage of up to 2 kg in several cases. Nazir Khan, a resident and gas consumer from Vaifale, raised the issue after checking the weight himself. “When we weighed the cylinder, we found a difference of nearly 2 kg. This is nothing but daylight robbery, especially at a time when people are already struggling with rising prices,” he said.

Such complaints are not limited to towns; similar reports are also coming from rural areas of Sattari taluka. Several consumers have contacted journalists and the Civil Supplies Department to highlight the seriousness of the issue. Despite complaints being filed at the Valpoi office, no clear action has been taken so far, leading to growing public anger. There are increasing demands for surprise checks and stricter enforcement to stop such malpractices.

Consumers have urged the Mamlatdar and Deputy Collector to step in immediately. They have also called for a joint meeting of officials from the Revenue and Civil Supplies Departments, along with a special inspection drive across the taluka. If the issue is not addressed quickly, many consumers could face financial losses.

In the meantime, consumers are being advised to stay alert. “Those who checked the cylinder weight have already seen this fraud. Every consumer should make sure the cylinder is weighed at the time of delivery,” appealed Nazir Khan and other residents.

All eyes are now on the Civil Supplies Department to see what action will be taken and whether strict steps will be introduced to stop this alleged gas theft in Sattari taluka.
