Chinchinim panchayat knocked on the doors of the government with a plea to take up the upgradation of the Chinchinim Primary Health Centre (PHC) into a fully bedded hospital.

Sarpanch Frank Viegas said the PHC facility serves a population from various nearby villages who rely on the Centre for medical assistance.

In a letter, the Sarpanch said, “Currently, it is challenging for the community to access health benefits and emergency services, as the PHC operates as a day care unit. With rising health awareness and the esteemed services offered by your department and the Health Minister of Goa, the demand for medical care has significantly increased.”

He added: “In emergencies, especially during off-hours, we are forced to transport patients to the South Goa District Hospital. This not only burdens the district hospital but also consumes valuable time, which can be critical for emergency care. Additionally, it has come to my attention that emergency patients may not be attended to during lunch breaks, which further exacerbates the difficulties faced by our community.”

The panchayat has urged the government to consider the plea for the health and well-being of the people served by the PHC Chinchinim.
