Valuables worth Rs 95.72 lakh recovered from multiple burglaries in Pernem

With the recovery of stolen gold ornaments from two more burglaries, police have so far recovered a total of Rs 95.72 lakh at the instance of the accused linked to multiple burglaries in different parts of Pernem taluka.

Chaitali Govekar (33) had filed a complaint stating that a burglary had taken place in her house at Badem in Korgao-Pernem sometime between 8 pm and 11 pm on December 22, 2024. Gold ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh were stolen from her house.

In this connection, police arrested Tejesh Gurav (28) of Ratnagiri but residing at Malpem in Virnoda-Pernem was arrested on January 16, while Rohan Padwal (29) of Varpe Waddo, Pernem was arrested the next day.

During interrogation, it revealed that Padval and his associate, Tejesh Gurav had committed a series of burglaries in Pernem town, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuyem and Korgao since December 2024. At least nine cases have been registered with the police stations at Pernem and Mandrem in this connection.

During investigations, police on January 19 recovered stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 17.91 lakh at the instance of the accused, Rohan Padwal.

In another case, Sarvesh Morje (33) of Murmuse-Tuem had complained that a burglary had taken place sometime in his house between 9.45 am and 6 pm on June 18, 2025. Gold ornaments, a laptop and some cash had been stolen from his house.

On Friday, Rohan Padwal and Jagannath Bagkar (20) of Ramnagar-Colvale were placed under arrest in this connection.

During investigation, police recovered stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 6.55 lakh on the instance of the accused, Rohan Padwal, at Malpe-Pernem.

The accused were produced before the JMFC at Pernem and were sent to 14 days in judicial custody.

With recoveries at the instance of the accused in multiple burglaries, police have, so far, recovered gold ornaments worth a combined Rs 95.72 lakh approximately.

PSI Praveen Simpurshkar and PSI Prathmesh Parsekar are conducting investigations into the case.
