Vasco PI to file defamation complaint over bribery claim

VASCO

Vasco Police Inspector Kapil Nayak on Friday said he would file a personal complaint in connection with a viral social media video that falsely accused him and the Vasco police station of demanding a bribe in a recent road accident case.

PI Nayak said the incident had occurred on September 13 when a Vasco Police Robot jeep was patrolling in the Bogmalo area. “A minor boy crashed into the police vehicle from the opposite direction near the Navy Museum, resulting in damage to the radiator and the front glass of the police jeep,” said PI Nayak.

“The bike owner and the minor’s mother admitted their child’s mistake and requested us not to register a case, while offering to repair the damaged police vehicle. However, a video showing I demanded Rs 1 lakh for the incident began circulating on social media,” he added.

Expressing concern about the misuse of social media, Nayak said some people are using social media only to defame others.
