A delegation of around 80 residents led by Parish priest of St Andrews church Vasco, Fr Gabriel Coutinho and accompanied by Mormugao municipal councillor Lavina D’Souza met the health officer of Sub District hospital Chicalim, Dr Rajendra Borkar.

According to MMC Councillor Lavina D’Souza, the delegation had met the Dy Collector Paresh Faldessai earlier in the day to follow up on the necessary requisite machinery and dengue kits that were assured during a meeting convened by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida a few days ago after the death of a 22-year-old resident of Voddant, Vasco due to suspected dengue.

D’Souza informed that locals demanded action against the officers of SDH holding them responsible for the death of the youth.

Fr Gabriel asked Dr Borkar why no enquiry was conducted against the doctors and medical staff of the hospital who allegedly had not given proper treatment and not taken proper care of the patient. Fr Gabriel also asked Dr Borkar about the lack of staff and necessary equipment in the hospital.

D’Souza said there was indeed some changes in the SDH and some machines had already arrived.

“Dr Borkar took us around and showed us the new machinery and equipment. We saw that the dengue testing kits and machine for checking of platelet counts had arrived. However, Dr Borkar said that the only machinery that was not available as of now is the ventilator and it would soon be made available”, she said.
