VASCO

Several residents of Belabai and Driver hill on Saturday urged the Vasco Urban Health Centre to fog the area as there have been rising cases of suspected dengue in the area.

Residents have expressed concerns that many people in the area are being detected with high viral fever and they fear that there could be an epidemic of dengue if the areas are not fogged.

Residents claimed that the Vasco UHC had carried out an inspection and found several dengue breeding sites in the area. The Vasco UHC also carried out an awareness drive on preventive measures and had assured to fog the area soon.

However, residents claim that the authorities have still not fogged the area.

Prasad Haldankar from Belabai said that the people had stopped storing water in the open but there was a need for the area to be fogged as a preventive measure against dengue.

Krishna Satardekar from Orulem said that MMC and Vasco UHC must join hands and carry out fogging not only in their wards but across all wards in the area.

Vishwanbar Fafte from Driver hill said there was a fear amongst the residents of the fatal effects of dengue and that fogging of the area would at least rid them of the fear.

When contacted, ward councillor Rochana Borker said that she would take up the matter with the UHC and also request them to fog the area.

“My ward consists of areas like Mestawada, Belabai, Orulem and Driver hill. There has been a great fear in the minds of the people about a dengue epidemic in the area, especially after the UHC carried out an inspection and found a lot of dengue breeding sites. I have been receiving several calls requesting the area to be fogged. The MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar had earlier assured that fogging would be carried out in all wards, but he must also request the Vasco UHC to carry out fogging in the area as well,”

 said Borker.
