According to Cuncolim police, the accident occurred when a Renault Duster car with four occupants was proceeding from Betul to Margao. As it approached Assolna bridge, another car travelling in the opposite direction collided with it. In the process, the Renault Duster car proceeding from Betul to Margao swirled and almost landed in the water, thereby injuring all four of
its occupants.
While the injured occupants of the car were rushed to Hospicio, a crane was requisitioned to lift the ill-fated Duster car from the river bed.
Meanwhile, even as the Cuncolim police are investigating into the incident, local residents of Assolna have urged the men-in-uniform to take a round of the Assolna bridge late in the evenings to reign in on miscreants
consuming booze.
The residents pointed out that the parking of two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers on the bridge poses traffic obstruction on the narrow bridge, while urging the police to ensure no parking on the bridge.
