The feast of St Francis Xavier was celebrated with pomp and religious fervour at many places across Salcete.
Velim locals celebrated the feast at St Xavier’s Church, with the village wearing a festive look on the occasion. Fr Edson Fernandes was the main celebrant of the concelebrated High Mass, who in his homily exhorted the people to emulate the example of St Francis Xavier.
“Parishioners of Velim have been celebrating the feast of St Francis Xavier every year on December 3 as per the tradition. This year as well, the parishioners celebrated the feast with devotion and fervour,” parish priest Fr George Fernandes said, while extending his wishes to the parishioners. The high mass was followed by a procession.
Police personnel and their families, besides people of Margao celebrated St Xavier’s feast at the Margao district police headquarters on Thursday evening. The traditional litany was held at the district headquarters.
Litanies at several places across Salcete taluka also marked the feast of St Xavier on Thursday.
