Reiterating that Dabolim airport is here to stay, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday also said the Verna garbage treatment plant would be fast-tracked so that garbage issues of the airport, navy and other central organisations are resolved.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the three aerobridges at Dabolim airport, Godinho said: “It is of utmost importance that three aerobridges are launched and it sends a very strong signal that Dabolim airport is here to stay. Dabolim will continue to remain a truly world-class airport. People are playing politics on the issue by claiming that Dabolim airport would be closed once Mopa airport starts operations.”
Godinho said he had already taken up the matter with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to have a full-fledged police inspector for Dabolim airport and also give priority and take up the setting up of garbage treatment plant on a war-footing.
“I will soon convene a meeting of all stakeholders, including the Collector, and spend an entire day to make sure all issues of the airport are resolved. The chief minister has agreed to my proposal to make sure Verna
garbage treatment plant is fast-tracked so that garbage issues of airport, Navy and other central organisations are resolved.”
“I have also requested the chief minister to have a full-fledged PI for Dabolim airport so that taxi issues are also resolved,” he said.
“The State government is doing everything necessary. We will take interest to beautify the roads and junction. I will soon convene a review meeting. We will improve the lighting as well. I have also requested the Animal Welfare Board to sterilise dogs while being vaccinated so that dog menace is brought under control,” added Godinho.
