Taking no chances after a group of people inaugurated the Opinion Poll Square earlier in the day, the Goa police deployed personnel to tighten security all along the Old Market Circle-Ravindra Bhavan road, as a precautionary measure ahead of Tuesday’s formal inauguration of the square.
Security was also strengthened at the historic Lohia Maidan, where the Goa Forward has planned a public meeting Asmitai Zagor on Tuesday at 4.30 pm.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Raju Raut Desai reviewed the security all along the Old Market Circle-Ravindra Bhavan road stretch in view of Monday morning incident when a group of people inaugurated the Opinion Poll Square ahead of the formal inauguration.
Even as the contractors engaged in sprucing up the square rushed in to complete the work and give final touches to the work, the entire road stretch has come under the police scanner. Policemen has been deployed in shifts to ensure there’s no untoward incident throughout the night.
DySP Raut had meetings with the police station in-charges of Fatorda, Margao and Colva to review the security arrangements on Monday night and throughout Tuesday.
Sources said two platoons of reserve police have been requisitioned by the police for deployment along the route on Tuesday.
Fatorda Police station in-charge, PI Navlesh Desai informed that police personnel from neighbouring Margao, Colva and Cuncolim has been requisitioned as precautionary arrangements as part of the security arrangements during the function.
Meanwhile, Goa Forward banners and flags made their appearance all along the Old Market Circle-Ravindra Bhavan road ahead of Tuesday’s Opinion Poll celebration. The entire Ravindra Bhavan road junction is being decorated with Goa
Forward flags.
