Victor is Assagao deputy sarpanch
MAPUSA:Former sarpanch Victor D’Souza was elected as the new deputy sarpanch of Assagao on Thursday.
Election had to be held for the post of the deputy sarpanch after two panchas “ Victor D’Souza and Rajesh Naik “ decided to contest for the post.
In the ensuing election, D’Souza defeated Naik by a margin of four votes.
In the seven-member panchayat, six panchas were present for the meeting.
D’Souza received the backing of four panch members, while Naik was supported by one panch. One vote was declared invalid.
The BDO had deputed Krishna Gadekar as the observer for the election.
It may be recalled that Hanuman Naik had recently resigned as the deputy sarpanch, as per an understanding among the panch members.
The posts of sarpanch and deputy are rotated among the panch members for a fixed term.
Priyanka Sangelkar is the sarpanch of Assagao Panchayat.
Victor D’Souza is a senior panch member and has also been sarpanch of Assagao in the past. The group is affiliated to WRD Minister Dayanand Mandrekar.
