The increase in business has been attributed to an increase in container traffic by 31 per cent and general cargo by 8 per cent, following a surge in iron ore exports and coal imports during the first quarter.
MPT registers 46% growth
The Mormugao Port Trust registered a 46% growth after handling total traffic of 16.99 lakh tonnes in June, as compared to 11.63 lakh tonnes handled for the same month last year. According to reports, the MPT performed even better during the period from April to June, handling 84.62 lakh tonnes of traffic in comparison to 41.39 lakh tonnes during the same period last year, registering a growth of 104 per cent.
