Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is planning to submit the final offer to supply minesweepers to Indian Navy by September 2016. This development comes after GSL hosted an international vendor meet for minesweeper equipment in Goa from June 27 to 29.

A GSL’s press release informed that around 100 firms from South Korea, India and other parts of the world, participated in the meet. Firms like M/s Shin Shin (manufacturer of pumps), M/s Arim and M/s Bada (manufactures of deck machinery), M/s Jeitek & M/s Shinhwa (manufacturers of modular accommodation, furniture and galley) attended the meet.

A number of companies from Goa like Dempo Group, Chowgule Group, Pai Kane Group and Kineco Kaman were also part of the vendor meet.

GSL gave detailed technical specification, order quantity, equipment supply schedule and key commercial terms to these vendors so that they can submit budgetary offers to GSL by July-end or by the beginning of August.

A source close to the development said, “Based on these budgetary offers, GSL will be coming out with final technical and commercial (T&O) offer, which will be submitted to Indian Navy by September.”

It is also reported that multinational engineering giants like Voith, Seimens and Schottel also participated in the vendor meet.

This vendor meet was a sequel to the two-day convention on ‘Make in Goa/India’ organized by GSL in association with CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) in June last year.

Minesweepers are naval warships designed to remove explosive naval mines. GSL had got an order worth Rs 32,400 crore from Ministry of Defense to manufacture 12 minesweepers in 2014.
