Fully loaded blood bank at Manipal hosp

Joining Goa Medical College in collecting, storing and processing whole human blood and its components, Manipal Hospitals, Goa, has inaugurated a fully functional and 24x7 operational blood bank in the state.

 Like GMC, Manipal will provide a blood bank fully loaded with the entire range of blood products including whole human blood, packed red cells, platelet concentrate, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate. It will function on voluntary donors and those donating will be given a card of acknowledgement. Speaking at the launch of the bank, Unit Head- Manipal Hospitals Goa, Girish Babu Bommakanti, said, “We are proud to add this new facility to our hospital as having a well-equipped blood bank is crucial to ensure smooth working and offers great convenience to the people of Goa.” Chief of Clinical Services & Chief of Medical Services at the hospital, Dr Shekhar Salkar, said, “All donors are medically screened and all blood products are screened for transfusion-transmitted infections to provide safe and effective blood and blood products to patients who require blood transfusions. The transfusion service is based on voluntary and non-remunerated donation and will cater to all hospitals in Goa,” he said. The facility was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP), Dr Muktesh Chander in the presence of Director of Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration Salim A Veljee.
