Vigilance plaint filed against SAG over World Cup tender

PANAJI

With the State government failing to initiate any action into the allegations of tender scam at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), the Goa Forward Party (GFP) filed a complaint with the Vigilance Department demanding action against the officials of the SAG’s technical unit.

GFP leader Vikas Bhagat, who first posted about the alleged fraud on social media, has also alleged manipulation of bills for the U-17 Women’s FIFA World Cup 2022 and named firms allegedly involved in it.

“The Technical Section Officials of SAG have committed acts of fraud while appointing Rajashree Creations as an event management agency for U-17 Women’s FIFA World Cup 2022. The RFP has been manipulated,” the complaint copy reads.

The GFP further alleged that the agency had submitted manipulated bills to the SAG which the then Director refused to certify as ‘major works were not executed and those which were done so, were of substandard quality.’ This refusal led to his abrupt transfer, Bhagat said while addressing a press conference after submitting the complaint to the Office of Vigilance at Altinho.

The complaint also states that an amount of Rs 35 lakh has been released to M/s Wisehawks Solutions towards the FIFA U-17 Host City Logo Launch event without certification of the bills.

The Goan contacted senior officers at Vigilance who stated they will conduct a preliminary inquiry into the complaint to ascertain if there is any substance to the allegations made in the complaint.

“If there’s a case made out, we will launch a thorough inquiry. As a routine process, our officers will hold a preliminary inquiry and call for evidence from the complainant and others concerned,” a senior bureaucrat said.
