MARGAO
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Monday gave a call for a “revolution” to usher usher in development, even as he affirmed the State will have to lay more stress on world-class education to resolve the unemployment problem, enhance the quality of life of Goans, eradicate disparities and inequalities and help boost economic growth in all sectors.
Addressing the official function at the historic Lohia Maidan on Goa Revolution Day from where the great nationalist Dr Ram Manohar Lohia had given a clarion call for the liberation of Goa from the Portuguese rule, Sardesai said there’s a need for another revolution, a revolution that will take the development forward by including development of human resources.
“Goa’s new generation looks forward to development. We want world-class technology which would benefit the youth. We need quality of life,” he said, adding that the government has embarked on a development process where there’s room for all people to participate.
Touching on the contentious issue of opposition faced by the government in certain quarters, Sardesai said opposition should not be just for the heck of it. “It is indeed surprising that people in Goa are opposing IITs and education hubs. When there’s opposition just for the sake of opposition, wrong signals are sent to the outside world,” he said.
Stressing on the need to provide employment-based education, the TCP Minister has rooted for world-class university education in Goa which would improve the quality of life. “There ought to be revolution in our thinking and in our approach to find solutions to problems,” he said, adding, “I am of the strong opinion that Goemkars should form the nucleus of Goa model of development”.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai, South Collector Anjali Sehrawat, district police chief Dinraj Govekar, freedom fighters, besides students of city-based schools participated in the programme.
