Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has demanded an inquiry into the episode when a woman was caught casting her vote by taking a photograph on a cell phone.

Saying that the woman voter had clicked the photograph in order to prove to a BJP leader that she has voted for the BJP and ensure her transfer to Margao from Panjim, Sardesai said he has spoken to the Chief Electoral Officer to order an inquiry, failing which he threatened to move the Election Commission of India.

He said the Fatorda police did not bother to make an inquiry after the woman voter in Fatorda constituency has been caught clicking pictures of the voting machine to submit as evidence to a BJP Goa leader for favours.

“Who's this leader who gave such instructions in blatant violation of election norms? This could be the tip of the iceberg. This could be happening throughout Goa! I'm shocked and appalled by such illegal acts by the BJP to hijack people's will”, he said, adding that he would take up the matter with the ECI.

Saying what had happened at the polling booth is unconstitutional, anti-people and anti democratic, he has called for a thorough inquiry into the matter. “When I visited the Fatorda police station, the woman voter was not found there. How can the woman be allowed to go home without conducting an inquiry as to who had sent her to click the photograph of the EVM”, he questioned.
