"This will be a mass movement will include all sections of society, inrease mechanisation and finding buyers using technology, and properly marketed and branded Goan produce," Sardesai suggested.
He suggested that several varieties unique to Goa should be marketed as such in order that they can achieve a higher price. The malcorado mango, Agassaim and Taleigao brinjal are not marketed properly. Amleo is a part of our culture which needs to be marketed," he said.
He also suggested that several tourists that come to Goa do not even know what tambdi bhaji is, but one cannot visit Spain without eating their traditional dishes or Japan without eating Sushi.
"Tourists should feel their holiday is incomplete without tasting this," Sardesai said.
Sardesai also suggested that the department could "create a Goa orchid" from among the varieties that are being researched.
"We need to brand Goan produce, develop floriculture parts. Create a Goa orchid. We can create that orchid. There are 32 varieties which are being researched. we could bring those and see which is the best," Sardesai said.
He suggested several steps to achieve his goals which includes the identifying of microclimate zones and setting up horti-hubs in Goa to
grow specialised vegetables, setting up postharvest cold chain infrastructure, to unify market efforts, collection centres of production, setting prices so premium is paid to the farmers.
