Vijai moots FAR transfer to take Regional Plan forward

The Town and Country Planning Department has floated an idea of putting in place a concept of “Transfer of Development Rights” in a bid to curb the clamour for converting eco-sensitive land into settlement.

The announcement comes on a day when the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister and the Chief Minister met TCP officials to decide on the way forward on the Regional Plan.
“No final decision has been taken. It was only an initial meeting,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced as he emerged from the meeting.
However, it was Sardesai who explained the idea.
“We’re trying to create a concept in which if you have an old house you will be given incentives to retain it that way. Suppose you have a plot of greenery in a city, you will have an incentive to keep it that way. That incentive you can then sell to a builder who can then use that incentive in a designated area where, a vertical growth will be allowed,” Sardesai explained.

Show no leniency for traffic violators, CM instructs police

Taking serious note of serious road mishaps over the last two days, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at a meeting of departments concerned instructed police and RTO to act strictly against traffic violators and promised to fully equip the police to go after law breakers.
