A day after he adopted an aggressive stand on jobs for sons-of-the-soil, Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardedsai on Wednesday took up the issue of recruitment for teaching posts (regular/shortfall/backlog) in the Goa University with Chief Minister
Pramod Sawant, as he claimed that there’s a systematic attempt to facilitate recruitment of non-Goan teachers in the University.
The Deputy Chief Minister is believed to have the told the Chief Minister there will be no compromise on jobs for the Goan youth, insisting that there cannot be any compromise on the domicile norm and essential knowledge of Konkani.
Regarding the requirement of “knowledge of Konkani”, Sardesai is believed to have drawn attention of the Chief Minister to the fact that certain favoured prospective applications for the above posts have been taking Konkani lessons for the last one year so that they may become eligible for the posts.
“This is absolute favouritism as these individuals, who are all non-Goans, have been assured recruitment, thus denying genuine and deserving Goans from securing these posts,” he added.
Saying that the university has been reluctant to apply the requirement of minimum period of domicile (15 years), which is part of the university statute, but which it claims will be struck down by any court of law, Sardesai is reported to have told the Chief Minister this is another ploy to deny Goans their rights by not implementing the domicile requirement.
He is believed to have told the Chief Minister that the university authorities do not have any right to bypass the university statute by themselves without any relaxation granted by the government. “A sinister plan is also being hatched by these authorities to ensure that some individual approaches the courts to strike down this requirement,” he said, adding the government should be prepared to meet this eventuality.
Saying that it has come to his knowledge that the reservation roster has been allegedly manipulated to deny deserving Goan OBC/ST candidates for these posts, Sardesai is believed to have called for a thorough investigation, as it is alleged that the eligible posts have been advertised in the general category and posts for which no Goan OBC/ST candidate is available have been reserved.
He told The Goan that the CM has promised that the government would protect the interests of the Goan youth in matters of jobs in the GU.
