Vijai stirs hornet’s nest, says open to contesting in Margao

PANAJI

Fatorda MLA and president of Goa Forward Party Vijai Sardesai hinted at taking on the Margao turf in the next election and stressed the need to save Margao from what he called a collapse physically, morally, ethically and politically.

Sardesai spoke about his political plans and touched upon an array of issues facing Margao during the ‘Head-On programme on Prudent media.

“We must save Margao. Someone must step forward and bell the cat. One must see what the people of Margao want and take them into confidence”, he said.

Claiming that even Congress has not taken the commercial capital seriously, the Fatorda MLA said, “they do not even have a block president there… I don’t want to poach on Congress seat... it has been their seat”.

Sardesai, however said, “it is not fair to leave Fatorda, but we cannot fail the people of Margao. I have to do it, if need be”.

Stating that all these years he contested from Fatorda, but had links in many wards in Margao, Vijai said one must ask Madgavkars what they want.

“All these years I did not think of contesting from Margao because I had given my word. But now that Margao is collapsing, someone must step in. The BJP government is trying to wipe out the symbols of Portuguese,” he said.

Asked to clarify on rumours of him joining the BJP in the wake of his recent meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Sardesai said it is wrong to give any political angle to this.

“I took up many major issues regarding Goa and discussed them with the union minister. I am hopeful that he would take it seriously and rectify the issues,” he said.
